The invention relates to a process for mounting the shaft line in sea-going ships, in building new ships of any type and tonnage. The invention is applicable during that stage of ship building, when the main engine is not brought aboard and when the ship superstructure is not mounted. According to the invention, the process for mounting the shaft line provides for first sighting the shaft line for an average thickness of the motor liners, then machining the inner side of the stern sleeve (1) of the stern tube, machining the outer side of the prow sleeve (2) of the stern tube, machining the outer side of the stern composition sleeve (3), machining the outer side of the prow composition sleeve (4) and finishing the intermediate shaft (6), afterwards, the assembling of the shaft line is carried on by mounting the stern composition sleeve (3) in a stern sleeve (1) of the stern tube, then mounting the prow composition sleeve (4) in the prow sleeve (2) of the stern tube and mounting the screw shaft (5) in the stern tube concomitantly with mounting the stern (12) and prow (13) sealings of the shaft line followed by the mounting of the screw (7) onto the screw shaft (5), then mounting the screw nut (7, 8) and mounting the screw head (9) and finally mounting the stern sealing guards (14). The machining of the constituent elements and their mounting onto the ship is carried out before the introduction of the main engine and before the mounting of the ship superstructure.
