PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for treating garbage which contributes to the maintainance of the deodorization and exhaustion efficiency by detecting a decrease in the flow rate of a gas passing through a deodorization and exhaustion part. SOLUTION: This garbage treating device is provided with a treating part S for biologically decomposing garbage, a recovery part K for recovering the biologically decomposed matter and a deodorization and exhaustion part D for removing the malodor from the treating part S or recovery part K and exhausting the gas. Further, a temp. sensor is furnished in the deodorization case of the deodorization and exhaustion part D, a judging device is provided, and a decrease in the gas flow rate is judged, with the flowing gas temp. as a parameter, when the flowing gas temp. is increased above a specified temp. or at a higher rate than specified.
