This invention provides tablets, comprising microbial cells or cell fragments, and at least 10 % of a fatty acid containing material, such as docohexaenoic acid (DHA) or arachidonic acid (ARA). Generally the tablet has a dense, rather than porous structure, and is substantially free of liquid oil on the surface. This invention also provides a process for forming the above tablets comprising a) preparing a paste from dry microbial cells or cell fragments, preferably with fatty acids or fatty acid residues present in the paste as constituents of the microbial cells; b) extruding the paste to form tablets; and optionally c) drying the tablets to less than 20% moisture residue. |
