PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup whose structure is improved so that the light emitted from a light source is converged and directed to a monitoring photodetector. SOLUTION: This device includes a light source 20 for emitting light beams, a beam splitter 21 which is provided on the route of the light beams from the light source and which splits the light beams, an objective lens 23 for converging the main light beam L1 branched by the beam splitter 21 on an optical recording medium 1, a monitoring photodetector 27 which receives a sub-light beam L2 branched by the beam splitter 21 and which monitors the outgoing light quantity of the light source 20, the main photodetector 25 for detecting error signals and information signals by receiving the light beam entered through the beam splitter 21 after emitted from the light source 20 and reflected by the optical recording medium 1, and a collimating lens 29 which is installed on a light path between the light source 20 and the beam splitter 21 so as to converge both the main light beam L1 and the sub-light beam L2 branched by the beam splitter 21. |
