A shoot bolt (10) that is characterised in an elongated element shaped to provide longitudinal side portions (12), separated by an intermediate but thinner (11) cross-section portion, wherein each side portion merges with the intermediate portion via inclined joining portions whereby the cutting of the shoot bolt to length simultaneously results in a bi-directional lead-in portion as described in Figure 1. This further provides an attachment arrangement for attaching a shoot bolt to a locking element of a locking mechanism. The arrangement includes a locking element, a shoot bolt, a receiving means associated with the shoot bolt and opening toward the locking element and a fastener (28) engagable through the locking element to be received in the receiving means to thereby prevent separation of the shoot bolt and the locking element in the direction of movement of the shoot bolt as described in Figure 2.
