SOLUTION: The 1st and the 2nd double refraction optical members B1 and B2 are constituted as a double refraction prism obtained by connecting one wedge prism consisting only of either positive crystal or negative crystal and a wedge prism consisting of isotropic substance. The 1/2 wavelength plate H is arranged between two members B1 and B2. Luminous flux on an optical axis made incident on the member B1 is divided into two linearly polarized light components L1 and L2, and made incident on the member B2 in a state where respective vibration directions are replaced by the action of the plate H. Two linearly polarized light components L1 and L2 are made to interfere in terms of polarized light by an analyzer A and a phase difference given is observed in a sample 13.
