PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve comfortable feeling and traveling safety of a vehicle provided with an automatic transmission in which a speed restricting device is mounted by restricting a low gear in the minimum gear stage when a present gear stage attains a regulated speed change gear stage. SOLUTION: In the case where the maximum speed Vmax is not lower than a restricting speed Vlim, a standard shift lock is started or held (9). It is checked (7) whether a gear higher than the minimum gear stage gearmin is taken or not in a present gear stage gearact of an automatic transmission. In the case where a gear higher than the minimum gear stage gearmin is taken, a standard shift lock is restarted (9). In the case where the present gear stage gearact not exceed the minimum gear stage gearmin check is carried out in a condition for stopping restriction of a low gear. In the case where an actual vehicle speed Vact exceeds the maximum speed Vmax which is decided beforehand, restriction of the low gear is cutout (8).
