PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a time spent for pre-scan shorter and therefore to increase a processing speed of a whole even when the pre-scan is performed by equipping a scanning type image reading means for reading an original image on an original surface by scanning the original surface and a batch image reading means for batch reading virtually whole surface of the original surface at the same time. SOLUTION: An image copying device (a copying machine) equipped with an image reader is provided with plural functions such as a scanner function, a printer function, a network copying function, a facsimile function or a local copying function. In the case of the scanning function which uses a batch image reading part 7, image data read by the batch image reading part 7 are written in an image memory 13 by a CPU 15 through a CPU bus 19. On the other hand, in the case of scanning function which uses a scanning type image reading part 8, image data read by a scanning type image reading part 8 are written in the image memory 13 through an image processing part 9.
