PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a function generator capable of easily generating and outputting an arbitrary frequency waveform by using a general purpose direct digital synthesizer IC(DDSIC). SOLUTION: In this function generator using the general purpose DDSIC, the DDSIC 1 is connected to a memory 2 in which the data obtained by converting sine wave data being the output data of the DDSIC 1 into an arbitrary waveform are stored. In applying the setting of output frequencies to the DDSIC 1 by a control arithmetic circuit 6, the sine wave data of frequency corresponding to the setting are outputted from the DDSIC 1, and inputted to the address of the memory 2. The converted data being the output of the memory 2 are D/A-converted by a D/A converter 3 at the same sampling clock as the sampling clock of the DDSIC 1, so that an arbitrary frequency waveform output can be obtained.
