PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely search the head of an optional position by automatically executing a normal reproducing operation in a recording medium, executing a high speed forward operation from the end position and repeating the operations till a high speed retrieval stop event exists. SOLUTION: A special reproduction control part 130 consists of a ROM (high speed retrieval means) 131 and a processor (high speed retrieval means) 132. When special reproduction control is given from a video voice recording and reproducing processing part 120, programs which agree with respective kinds of special reproduction are executed. When the high speed retrieval function of the special reproduction control part 130 is 'five-second reproduction at every five minutes', the part 130 receives 'high speed retrieval', the program for 'high speed retrieval', concretely, where five-second normal (one time speed) reproduction and five-minute high speed forwarding are repeated is executed. Then an indication for reading and reproducing images and voice for five seconds and also a control indication concerning a five-minute time skip are repeatedly executed concerning the video voice recording and reproducing processing part 120 and repeated till the event for stopping the high retrieval function exists.
