PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the working efficiency of a user from dropping by quickly obtaining printed-out results by switching the outputting destination of a picture to another printer when a printer used for printing the picture causes some failure. SOLUTION: In a picture processing system in which a scanner 1 can communicate with printers 1-3 through a network 6, the reader controller of the scanner 1 selects one printer for outputting a picture read by means of the scanner 1 for copying the picture on a recording medium. When the scanner 1 detects that the selected printer is in a paper jamming state, the system controls the scanner 1 to switch the outputting destination of the picture to another printer.
