PURPOSE: A method for restoring operation and error information for digital device and software module of software packaged in related digital device are to provided to report the operation of only a software module desired by a user by executing a test function as the function of a flag value related with the relevant software module and outputting test information. CONSTITUTION: While using a serial link connected to a computer(1) and a communication protocol, the user accesses the string of (n) bits capable of taking the value of '0' or '1' in an EEPROM of a decoder(3), for example. Then, by setting the bit of the index of the string to the value '1', the user activates only a modem test, deactivates the other test function of the other software module of the string and selects routing of information provided as a result from the activated test to a serial port. At such a time, the computer(1) can get this information through a serial line(10).
