NMDA (n-methyl-d-aspartate) antagonists which preferentially bind to the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site on the NMDA receptor complex

Excitatory amino acid antagonists of formula (1). These antagonists are useful as NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) antagonists and preferentially bind to the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site on the NMDA receptor complex. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions containing these amino acid antagonists and the use of the composition to treat ischemic/hypoxic/hypoglycaemic damage to cerebral tissue and anxiety as well as being useful for producing an analgesic effect.
