PURPOSE: To obtain good linearity without loss of efficiency of magnetic field generation. CONSTITUTION: This coil assumes a winding pattern comprising a semicircular spiral. The electric current distribution is expressed by a continuous function Jx(x) so that the current distribution curve does not extend over both of positive and negative electrodes. The parameters of the continuous function Jx(x) is optimized for a desired linearity, and the linear portion of the semicircular spiral 1Xt1L is positioned so as to provide the current distribution curve given by the optimized continuous function Jx(x). It is symmetrically copied to obtain a gradient coil unit 1Xt, a plurality of this unit being combined to give a gradient coil assembly. Thus, good linearity is obtained and reduction of the efficiency of magnetic field generation is avoided. |
