PURPOSE: To provide a method by which polymerization readily occurring in the interior of a distillatory apparatus can be prevented when distilling a readily polymerizable compound such as (meth)acrylic acid or a (meth)acrylic ester. CONSTITUTION: The polymerization in a vacuum apparatus is prevented by feeding a liquid containing a polymerization inhibitor to a gas introduced into the interior of the vacuum apparatus in the method for purifying a readily polymerizable compound under a reduced pressure by using the vacuum apparatus. When the vacuum apparatus comprising a steam ejector and a condenser 2 is used, the liquid containing the polymerization inhibitor may be fed into the interior of the condenser 2. When a liquid driving type ejector or a liquid- sealed type vacuum pump or both are used as a vacuum generating apparatus the liquid containing the polymerization inhibitor may be fed into the interior of the vacuum generating apparatus. Acrylic or methacrylic acid, a (meth)acrylic ester, etc., are cited as the readily polymerizable compound.
