PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent orientation failure of liquid crystal molecules and to produce a liquid crystal display device having high display quality and high reliability at a low cost by applying a sealing agent in a sealing region of a first substrate and then irradiating the substrate with energy beams in the orientation process. SOLUTION: A polyimide oriented film is formed on a TFT array substrate 1 and a counter substrate 4, and an epoxy resin-based sealing agent is applied in the peripheral part (sealing region) of the pixel region. Just after that, the surface of the oriented film of the TFT array substrate 1 is irradiated with an argon ion beam 2 in an oblique direction emitted from an ion source 3. Since the oriented film is irradiated with the beams 2 after a component such as a solvent oozes out from the sealing agent, alignment regulating force is added to the surface of the oriented film. Also on the counter substrate 4, after the oriented film is formed, the surface of the oriented film is irradiated with an Ar ion beam 2 and then a spherical spacer consisting of a styrene resin is sprayed and distributed. |
