PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing device, recording medium adapter device and recording/reproducing method capable of escaping from an electric power saving mode without being reset by discharging and reloading of a recording medium. SOLUTION: This FD drive device 20 is provided with a switch which detects that an FD type card adapter 1 processing data in order to record or reproduce the data in or from a memory card is attached and a light emitting element 30 which sends communication of the prescribed control data to the light emitting element 8 of the FD type card adapter 1 in order to execute control relating to the operation for recording or reproducing the data. Thus, the FD type card adapter 1 is restored from an electric power saving mode by the communication of control data without resetting the FD type card adapter 1 by discharging and reloading and is set in an optional control state.
