PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a recording mode for sound recording through easy operation and to make it easy to confirm in which mode sounds are recorded by providing a recording means which records voice data to a recording medium in a recording mode set by a recording mode setting means, etc. SOLUTION: A switch for switching the recording mode is provided in a switch group 13 and can be selected in either low-compression SP mode or high-compressibility LP mode. Then a voice signal which is inputted through a microphone 2 is amplified by an amplifier 3, processed by the low-pass eliminating filtration of an LPF, and converted by an A/D converter 5 into a digital signal. This digital signal is inputted to a digital signal processor 6 and after various information processes are performed, the resulting signal is inputted to a system control part 1. The system control part 1 records digitized voice data on a recording medium 11 according to the state of SP-LP SW.
