PURPOSE: To provide an objective lens having a high numerical aperture(NA), which is capable of suppressing the lowering of light quantity in the periphery of the lens, and an optical pickup device using such lens. CONSTITUTION: The objective lens 1 has a numerical aperture of 0.7 or higher, converging outgoing light from a light source and irradiating an optical recording medium. The objective lens 1 and the antireflection coating film formed on it are set in the manner that the intensity of the incident light on the closest periphery of the objective lens 1 is not less than 45% and not more than 80% compared with the intensity of the incident light on the center of the objective lens 1 from the light source.
