PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the gain fluctuation, etc., of a capacitive position detector caused by the environmental variation or time variation by providing a capacitive reference plate which is faced oppositely to an armature that changes the capacitive coupling between the armature and a detecting plate in accordance with the movement of a position-detected component. SOLUTION: Four capacitive detecting plate parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 are attached to a fixed supporting plate. An armature 7 is positioned between the parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 and an exciting plate 8 and constituted to change the capacitive coupling between the armature 7 and a detecting plate in accordance with the movement of a position-detected component. The armature 7 has front end sections 16 in the corner sections of its out peripheral sections and the sections 16 are protruded in the radial direction. Capacitive reference plates 5 and 6 are arranged in a state where the plates 5 and 6 are faced oppositely to the armature 7. The front end sections 165 and 166 of the armature 7 interact with the reference plates 5 and 6 and an electric circuit section generates a pulse. The rising time of the pulse is used as the moment indicating the actual biased position of the armature 7.
