A smoking article fuel source of substantially the whole length of a smoking article, the fuel source comprising 25-70% carbon or carbonaceous material by weight of the fuel source, 10-65% inorganic non-combustible binder by weight of the fuel source and optionally a burn promoter, the binder being comprising one or more of potassium silicate, magnesium oxide in combination with potassium silicate or cement; and smoking articles made using the fuel source.
