Centering log on veneer lathe by rotating log through one revolution to determine centres of each end

A log centring and feeding apparatus for a veneer lathe includes a centring spindle 29 with log centre detecting means 37. The centring spindle rotates the log 7 through at least one revolution so that the log centre detecting means can determine the axial centres of each end of the log. The log is then fed to cutting spindle 9 by log transporting means which ensure that the log is properly centred on the cutting spindle.
