Thin, large-area integrated circuits (2) are attached to a substrate. These include output contact pads (5, 5') on their active faces. The communications interface is impressed or attached inside the area of the active face, and connections are completed. If necessary, individual circuits are separated, each one comprising an electronic tag. The substrate is paper, polymethyl methacrylate, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polyamide, polyimide, polyether imide, polypropylene or other appropriate materials. Independent claims are included for the formed electronic tags, an assembly of electronic tags, and a dispenser for rolls of such labels.
