PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice interactive information retrieval system which is dependent on neither a storage format nor an access method of object data to be retrieved. SOLUTION: The voice interactive information retrieval system 1 is equipped with a document process part 4 which generates a common data format, a document type definition file 5 wherein the data format of a tagged document is described so as to generate the common data format, and a retrieving process part 3 which performs a retrieving process according to the common data format. The retrieving process part uses an element defined in the document type definition file as a retrieval key word for this voice interactive information retrieval system. Further, the document process part generates the tagged document from the database as an object of retrieval or an electronic file and the document type definition file.
