PURPOSE: A method is provided to detect the water content contained in compressed air supplied to an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: A sample is branched from compressed air flow, and is separated into a first remainder(17) including only air not having water drops and a second remainder(18) including sample moisture and few air part, pressure of the second remainder(18) is reduced, its temperature is compared with an initial temperature of the sample, and thereby, a water content can be measured at a good sensitivity. A cyclone(5) is utilized for forming the first and second remainders(17,18) and the first remainder(17) is delivered to a circumference, and the second remainder(18) is led to a pressure reducing chamber(12).
