An optical coupling device for coupling light between two end surfaces of an optical waveguide in which the geometrical position of one end-face e.g. of an optical fibre, relative the other optical fibre end-face e.g. of an optical light guide chip, is variable with the aid of a length-variable element, which carries one of the two optical waveguides via a retaining device, and is fixed by a retaining block on the other optical waveguide. The length-variable element (8) or the retaining device (12) is held by a sponge-type or porous spring element (14), which is supported directly or indirectly on at least one of the retaining blocks (4,6), and allows movements of the length-variable element or the retaining device, in the longitudinal direction of the length-variable element, and in which the latter expands or shrinks, and suppresses movement of the length-variable element, normal to its longitudinal direction.
