410,876. Hockey sticks. HAZELLS, Ltd., and CORDWELL, G. F., 111, Mare Street, Hackney, London. Dec. 2, 1932, No. 34184. [Class 132 (ii).] The toe and waist portions 4, 5, of a hockey stick comprise laminations 1, 2, for example of ash, glued or cemented together, and a reinforcing splice 6 of cane or other resilient material dovetailed into the lamination 2 and extending from the top of the waist to the curved portion 3. The laminations 1, 2 are arranged so that their grains are in different directions and the splice 6 may also be laminated. A laminated cane handle 10 is spliced at 9 into the waist portion 5, extends the full thickness of laminations 1, 2, and may be dovetailed or otherwise formed at its end 11 to secure a better joint. The stick is shaped and a webbing 12, of cotton or other material saturated in a waterproofing liquid, wound thereon to form helical corrugations 13. Preferably the webbing is applied over the usual string binding and is secured by binding at 14, 15, the bindings and webbing being differentially coloured. A toe reinforcing inset 17 may be applied as described in Specification 231,294, [Class 132 (ii)].
|
