The safety device has a control unit which is linked to at least one impact sensor (10), e.g. an acceleration sensor or deformation sensor and which has a signal evaluation stage (14), for initiating operation of the automobile brakes upon detection of a sensor signal which is above a given upper threshold. The brakes are subsequently released when the sensor signal drops below a lower threshold value. |
