The energy absorbing support (3) is formed by a compound support (5) comprising an outside support (6) and inside support (7) connected together by locally arranged interposed polymer or metal structural foamed strips (8) extending in the longitudinal direction of the supports. Seen in cross section the outer support runs circumferentially at a distance from the inner support so that the structural foamed strips extend in the interspace (9). The foamed strips swell up under heat when processed in a oven for intimate connection of both supports.
