The system has fluid-filled sealed actuator chambers formed by cylinders. Each chamber (30,40) is connected to a sealed fluid-filled volume-adjustable compensation chamber (32,42) via a throttle element (36,46). The element is formed as a solid body with very small pores, e.g. a porous sintered part. Each piston can be locked in set positions, and several pistons can be locked in associated positions. The compensation chamber is formed by a cylinder (33,43) with spring-loaded piston (34,44), or a flexible bag of elastomer material. The pressure in the chambers is larger than atmospheric pressure, but smaller than system operating pressure.
