Method automatically sets pressure between elastically coated transfer cylinder, print material and print cylinder. Print material characteristic data are entered, from which control parameter for control element for setting distance of parallel cylinder axes is derived. Control parameter is subjected to a correction value that is previously determined and is entered into control or regulating device (18) and stored. Correction value (KC, KM, KB, KY) includes deviation of coating (14-17) thickness from desired value.
