The support for a moving rail section (10,12), at direction change points in a railway permanent way, has an underlay (30) like a sleeper or tie with elastic intermediate supports (36,38) to carry the moving rail sections. The intermediate supports have a hard spring characteristic against vertical forces of /-1000 Kn/mm on their plane and softer spring characteristics against forces of <= 3-5 Kn/mm along their plane. The intermediate underlay supports can have rustproof sliding elements of metal or plastics.
