Secondary lithium-ion cell comprising an anode, a cathode and a non-aq. lithium-ion conducting electrolyte between them is improved by using a cathode comprising submicron-size, amorphous, microporous, lithium-intercalatable, quadrivalent manganese oxide particles supported on an electrical conductor. The particles have an internal surface area greater than 100 m2/g. Also claimed is an improved secondary cell as above, in which the manganese oxide particles are bound together by an electrically conductive, lithium-intercalatable polymer. |
