Purification of liquid containing solids where water is stored in a tank (1) with an inlet (2) and an outlet (3). The vessel contains loose filter particles, held back from the outlet (3) by e.g. a gauze (8). The flow of liquid enters the tank to form an eddy zone (5) which then translates to a low-speed flow zone (6) immediately before the gauze (8). Above a certain unit area liquid/solid charge-rate threshold, a slow-flow zone is created immediately before the gauze (8), which retains an easily-permeable filter layer of high filter capacity without any unwanted fence transposition. The eddy zone (5) may also be used as a bio-reactor with e.g. introduction of additional oxygen. The filter layer is regenerated by closing off the inlet (2) and outlet (3), breaking down the stationery filter layer. The eddy zone (5) is then broken down into smaller eddies, liberating the captured solids. After the solid-enriched suspension has been drawn off, the tank (1) is re-filled with fresh liquid and after a certain area-charge of solid particles has been reached, a fresh filter layer forms independently.
|
