A method of removing metal, e.g nickel, from fats, e.g stearic fat, comprises subjecting the nickel/fat mixture to heat to liquefy the fat which is then transferred to a liquid-liquid extractor and supplied with a 20% hydrochloric acid. An approximately 100% extraction takes place with the 20% hydrochloric acid, so that at the time of phase-separation, hydrochloric acid containing nickel and a virtually nickel-free stearic fat are produced. The metal and hydrochloric acid phase is distilled to remove nickel chloride and the fat is washed with water to extract the acid, possibly with subsequent neutralisation.
|
