PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization unit, which carbonizes organic wastes without causing any problem resulting from the tar produced. SOLUTION: This carbonization unit heats organic wastes W by a heater 22 as the heat-generating means installed on the side wall in an oven 20 of closed structure to a carbonization temperature. The oven inside is kept under a vacuum by inducing tar, odor, dust and steam-containing air out of the oven by an ejector 52 with air or water through induced air passages 54 and 69. The induced air is directed to a separator tank 30 or water tank 60, where tar and dust are separated.
