PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microbicidal antiseptic composition which sustains antiseptic efficacy for a long time, possesses rapid microbicidal rate and exhibits excellent growth inhibitory effect on fungi by formulating dibromonitroethanol land a quaternary ammonium salt. SOLUTION: This microbicidal antiseptic composition is obtained by including (A) 2,2-dibromo-2-nitroethanol and (B) a quaternary ammonium salt of formula I R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C alkyl; R3 and R4 are each a 1-20C alkyl, the group of formula II, -(CH2)n-OH[(n) is 1-10] or a group of formula III; X is a halogen or CH3CH2COO}, e.g. N,N-dimethyl-N,N-di-n-decylammonium chloride, N,N-dimethyl-N,N-di-n-octylammonium chloride, N-hexadecyl-N,N,N- trimethylammonium chloride or the like. On the above composition, it is favorable that the components A and B are formulated in a weight ratio of 100:1 to 1:100.
