PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polysilane in excellent safety at a low cost without using a highly dangerous reducing agent by reducing a trihalosilane by acting Mg or a Mg-based alloy. SOLUTION: This production of a network polysilane is to react (C) Mg or a Mg alloy with (A) a trihalosilane expressed by formula I (R is H, an alkyl, an aryl or a silyl; X is a halogen), (preferably phenyltrichlorosilane) in the presence of (B) a non-protonic solvent (preferably tetrahydrofuran) to form a network polysilane expressed by formula II (n is 2-1000). The ingredient B is preferably dehydrated with a monohalosilane in advance. The obtained network polysilane can be purified by agitating and washing with an alcohol such as methanol or the like in a 3-10 times of volume. The average degree of polymerization of the network polysilane is preferably 5-100. Thus, the highly pure network polysilane is provided.
