PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N- oxyl at a low temperature in a short time in a high yield in the oxidation reaction using a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine using hydrogen peroxide. SOLUTION: This method comprises oxidizing a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine in the presence of at least one selected from pertungstic acid, its sodium and potassium salts to give a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl. Preferably the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl is 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N- oxyl or 4-oxo-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl.
