PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the life of a rope during the operation of an elevator by reading out the travelling time data from a computer for control, of an elevator control board, estimating the bending frequency of a rope on the basis of the travelling time data, storing an accumulated value, and determining the life on the basis of the accumulated value. SOLUTION: A life diagnosing device 1 connected to a computer 2a for control, of an elevator control board 2, has a period setting part 1c for setting a period for estimating the bending frequency, and a period for life determining process, and a bending frequency operating part 1d receiving the travelling time data from the computor 2a, and estimating the bending frequency on the basis of a predetermined arithmetic expression by using the travelling time data as a variable. Further it has the life bending frequency data base 1e storing the data for estimating the disconnection of a strand on the basis of the bending frequency. The result of the estimation of bending frequency is compared with the life bending frequency by a life determining part 1f, whether the rope 5 is to be approaching the end of its life or not is determined, and an inspection command generating part 1g is operated when the approaching to the end of the life is determined.
