OPERATION OF MELTING FURNACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a melting furnace capable of reducing melting cost and utilizing industrial wastes. SOLUTION: This method for operating a melting furnace comprises the following practice: an oxygen burner 14 mounted on a melting furnace 10 is fed with heavy oil, primary oxygen and secondary oxygen to effect emission of high-temperature flame from the tip of the burner 14; steelmaking dust and reducing slag are fed in necessary proportions at the above high-temperature flame, at the same time either waste plastics or shredder dust is also fed; both the steelmaking dust and reducing slag then melt and are reserved at the bottom of the furnace; wherein the waste plastics or shredder dust is mixed with the heavy oil and oxygen and combusted and thereby utilized as a heat source for melting both the steelmaking duct and reducing slag.
