PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and accurately carry out the tying work at a tying section by making a tying string receive a material to be tied just before tying without generating the disorder in carriage. SOLUTION: A tying device is constituted of a carrying section for receiving a material to be tied on the side of a feed section 1a and carrying the material to be tied onto the tying position on the other side, a tying section 4 for tying the material to be tied carried by the carrying section and a tying string delivery section for delivering and carrying the tying string 2 to the tying section 4 and the like. In that case, the carrying section is formed into a gripping and receiving tool 9 starting in the feed standby posture and the tying start postured of the material to be tied and stopping in the carrying posture of the material to be tied and gripping the same, and when the gripping of the material to be tied is released by the gripping and receiving tool 9 in the tying start posture, the material to be tied is received by the tying string 2 and supported by the gripping and receiving tool 9 in the clamping shape and tied.
