PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control exhaust valve opening/closing appropriately so as to fully obtain an engine output or prevent hunting of the exhaust valve. SOLUTION: In this control method, exhaust timing is advanced or delayed by opening and closing an exhaust valve according to an engine speed. When the speed is high, a speed na (na1, na2, etc.), is controlled at the beginning of the valve opening so that the exhaust valve is full open when a predetermined set speed n0 is satisfied. When the speed decreases while the exhaust valve is fully open but a throttle is not, the exhaust valve is closed when the speed satisfies nb, which is higher than n0 at which the exhaust valve opens when the speed increases.
