PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for handling a plastic product at the time of release from a mold of a plastic injection molding apparatus or after the release therefrom, especially, an apparatus and a method suitable for cooling a thick-walled plastic product. SOLUTION: Holding means 12, 80 are provided in order to hold a plastic product 16 and cooling means 70-76, 90 are provided in order to cool the first surface parts 22, 28 of the plastic product. The holding means 12, 80 have the receiving port 12 having the inner surface 106 surrounding the plastic product 16 to hold the plastic product 16 in the predetermined free space between the inner surface 106 and the first surface parts 22, 28. The cooling means 70-76, 90, 92 guide a fluid flow 72 along the first surfaces 22, 28 within the free space 108.
