PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fire from extending to a machine room on the roof of an elevator shaft to prevent the spread of the fire to the outdoors in an elevator device comprising a car and balancing weight raised and lowered by a rope suspended from a hoist through a rope opening part by shielding the rope opening part with a refractory in the case of a fire. SOLUTION: A hoist 1 and a control board are set on a machine base 4 provided on a machine room floor 6 on the roof of an elevator shaft, and these are covered with a machine unit box. A car and a balancing weight are connected to a rope 5 suspended from the sheave 2 of the hoist through the opening of the machine room floor 6. A refractory shielding body 7 for shielding the opening of the machine room floor 6 is generally retained by a combustible support member 8. When a fire occurs, the support member 8 is burnt and cannot support the shielding body 7, and the shielding body 7 is fallen to the opening side of the machine room floor 6 to shield the opening. According to this, the fire can be prevented from leaking into the machine unit box.
