PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fluid causing hardly any influences on the stratospheric ozonosphere or global warming, excellent in refrigerating capacity and coefficient of performance or the like and to be used in refrigerating cycle apparatuses by including carbon dioxide at a specific amount and ethane. SOLUTION: This fluid is obtained by including (A) carbon dioxide at >=60 wt.%, preferably >=80 wt.% as a natural regrigerant and (B) ethane as a hydrocarbon capable of producing an azeotropic mixture with the component A. This fluid can be used as a refrigerant in regrigerating cycle apparatuses. In this case, because the component B with high azeotropic tendency is included in a little amount indicating low-flammability, miscibility of the fluid with a lubricating oil similar in chemical structure to the component B can be improved in a wide temperature range involved from an operation commencement till a target cryogenic temperature is attained and in the case of any mixing ratio of the component A to the lubricating oil for a compressor, and therefore, oil return of the lubricating oil coexisting with the component A to the compressor can be secured.
