PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently carry out the initial winding and straping work for a tying string for a material to be tied, efficiently and smoothly carry out the tying work, and make a tying device contact and easy to handle. SOLUTION: A tying device is provided with a carrying section 3 for receiving a material to be tied on the side of a feed section 1a and turning and carrying the material to be tied on the tying position on the other side, a tying section 4 for tying the material to be tied carried by the carrying section 3 and a tying string delivery section 5 for delivering and feeding a tying string 2 onto the tying section 4, and the material to be tied to be tied with the tying string 2 is discharged from a discharge line 6. In that case, the carrying section 3 and the feed section 1a are provided in parallel with in front and rear, and the tying string delivery section 5 is set above the rear of the tying section 4, and the material to be tied is supported and tied with the tying string provided in tension in the backward inclined posture between the tying section 4 and the tying string delivery section 5 on the position whereon the material to be tied is turned and carried almost by a half-round from the side of the feed section 1a by the carrying section 3.
