PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the length of a shaft and to improve rotation efficiency in the case of a roller clutch for a fishing reel. SOLUTION: A roller clutch mechanism 73 is equipped with an inner wheel 96 fitted on the outer peripheral surface of a handle shaft 30, an outer wheel 97 which is relatively rotatably placed on the outer peripheral surface of the wheel 96 and has a plurality of roller grooves 97a on its inner peripheral surface, a plurality of rollers 98 each movably fitted in each groove 97a, flat springs 99 each energizing each roller 98 in one direction, and support members 100 each supporting each roller 98. The axial length A of the outer ring 97 is set <=60% of the outside diameter B of the outer ring 97, difference C between the outside diameter B and the inside diameter D of the ring 97 is set >=8% of the diameter B, the diameter D is set 50% to 70% of the diameter B, and the diameter R of the roller 98 is set <=10% of the outside diameter B of the wheel 97.
