PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic polycarbonate resin whose mol.wt. is substantially scarcely lowered and which can express an excellent color tone, by preliminarily adding a specific phosphorous stabilizer to the organic solution of the aromatic polycarbonate resin and then removing the organic solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate resin comprises adding (B) 0.0001 to 0.15 pt.wt. of at least one phosphorous stabilizer selected from compounds of formulas I to III [Ar1, Ar2 are each a (alkyl- substituted) aromatic group; Ar3 is a dialkyl-substituted aromatic group] having a chlorine atom-chloride ion concentration of 1 to 11,000 ppm to (A) the organic solvent solution of 100 pts.wt. of an aromatic polycarbonate resin having a viscosity-average mol.wt. of 10,000 to 50,000 and then removing the organic solvent. The phosphorous stabilizer composition B preferably comprises 40 to 80 wt.% of the compound of formula I, 0 to 25 wt.% of the compound of formula II and 5 to 50 wt.% of the compound of formula III, wherein the total amount of the compounds of formulas I, II and III is 100 wt.%.
