PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene porous sheet excellent in air permeability, cushion property and tensile strength. SOLUTION: Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene powder is heated and sintered by steam heated to the melting point or above and the resultant sintered compact is cut into a sheet-like shape by a cutting lathe and the sheet-like molding material is stretched in 1-500% degree of orientation in the longitudinal direction of the sheet at 90-200 deg.C to produce the objective ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene porous sheet.
